Learn How the Facebook Video Post Went Viral

Virality.

That ever evasive word that every nonprofit organization dreams of but for many organizations never feels actually obtainable. Well we hope that this blog post will not only inspire some ideas but also provide you with some needed encouragement because it is possible.

Wounded Warrior Homes, is a San Diego based 501c3 that provides transitional housing for military veterans who are battling Post-Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injury.

Like many nonprofits, WWH has a small team, a light marketing budget and overall, doesn’t have a ton of time or resources to invest into large social media campaigns. Transparently, we here at Community Boost do work directly with Wounded Warrior Homes, however, this viral campaign was something special and its success was outside of our hands.

WWH was very fortunate to have Gumco, a great web/video company, donate and do a pro-bono video for them. This is without a doubt an incredibly well-done video (especially considering it was pro-bono) but it is a testament that when you engage and inspire your audience, people will share your message with their networks.

However, the original post (that received a ton of engagement originally in May of 2015), recently received an unexpected and massive social media resurgence one year later. As Memorial Day approached once again, a few people went back and re-shared the post from a year ago. From there, the Facebook Algorithm kicked in and then BAM…

In less than one week, the Facebook video generated over 1.5 million additional video views. Wounded Warrior Homes Facebook fans skyrocketed from 5k to almost 10k, in just 4 days.

“One year later, a simply re-share of one of our best Facebook video posts doubled our Facebook Fans from 5,000 to almost 10,000 in just 4 days.”

Three Top Tips to Taking an Old Video Post Viral

  1. 1. Encourage a few fan pages with large followings to re-share your best content
  2. 2. When people re-share and more comments happen, reply to those comments quickly
  3. 3. You don’t stand a chance at virality if your content isn’t unique and engaging, so ask for re-shares of your all-time best pieces

Nice post. I learn something totally new and challenging on websites I stumbleupon on a daily basis.
It’s always interesting to read content from other authors and use a
    little something from other websites.
