3 min to read ✭ In this post, we’ll learn about our two new hires, what they’re passionate about and their favorite core value here at Community Boost.

Tell us a little about yourself and where you’re from.

Scott: I grew up in San Diego, I was born and raised here. I have a seven-year-old boy who just turned eight actually and I’m in sales.

Kayla: I am from Orange County and I went to school in Santa Barbara, so I’ve always lived in California, but just moved to San Diego two years ago. I live with my dog and I do all my things with my dog. That’s me. That’s it.

Why did you choose Community Boost?

Kayla: I chose Community Boost because I had worked in nonprofits before. I was really passionate about doing something that I love, but also that makes a difference and that’s what Community Boost was all about. The people here on my first interview were so nice and welcoming, and I knew it was somewhere I wanted to be.

Scott: I chose Community Boost because of just the overall energy that was alive in the workplace. I also wanted to take my sales skills to the next level and do it in a way that made me feel good about my impact on society.

What is one thing you’ve learned so far?

Kayla: It’s just really a community here. I’ve never really worked at a place where you bounce ideas off of everyone there. Scott and I are on the same team, and we’re always talking and getting ideas from each other and getting better every single day. So I’ve learned that. I’ve also learned a lot about sales. This is my first sales job, but I’ve learned a lot from Scott and from everyone else here too.

Scott: Well, one thing I’ve learned is that there are a lot more nonprofits than I originally knew. I’m on the opposite side of the spectrum of Kayla. I do have sales experience, but very little nonprofit experience. So it’s been pretty eye-opening to see all the different organizations and what they’re doing in the community.

What are you most looking forward to in your time here?

Kayla: I’m most looking forward to the Boosties. I’ve heard a lot about them and I love awards, so I’m really excited for them.

Scott: I’m also looking forward to the Boosties. I’m mainly looking forward to not being new anymore though.

What is one thing you’re passionate about?

Scott: I’m really passionate about music. I love to make music. I play guitar and I compose music. I’m also really passionate about being a father and just putting everything I can into developing a relationship with my son.

Kayla: I am really passionate about dogs and my dog. I’m also really passionate about making a difference, like having a job where I love what I do every day. I love what I do every day here, so this is the right place.

What is your favorite core value of Community Boost?

Kayla: To be bold. I love that idea and I try to be bold every day. In my regular life and now at work too. I think that our team really sticks to that. We’re always innovative and bold and making new changes.

Scott: My core value would be transparency. I’m really big on being honest with myself and knowing how I can be better in the future and reflecting on what I can do best. I think the company that I work for should be big with that too, so that really resonates with me for sure.

What is one thing that people might not know about you?

Kayla: I love eating contests. I love to do any challenge that involves eating. I recently just won an eating contest where I ate a two-pound caramel apple in under 10 minutes.

Scott: One thing people might not know about me is that I’m a super nerd with sci-fi. I love science fiction. I love reading and watching movies. I also really like socks, especially when the socks are sci-fi, like these monkey surfing space chimp socks. Those are some passions of mine.
