Virtual Fundraising Ideas for Nonprofits
3 min to read ✭ In this post, you’ll learn some creative virtual alternatives to in-person fundraising events.
How to Turn Your In-Person Event Virtual
Virtual is the new normal when it comes to events. On the bright side, you can attend in pajamas and skip paying for Ubers or sitting in traffic! COVID-19 may have created some roadblocks to hosting incredible in-person events, but the show must go on! We’re here to get your creative juices flowing with some ideas for your next virtual fundraising event.
Marathons, walk-a-thons, dance-a-thons, or bike ride-a-thons are all events that can be organized virtually! Ask participants to submit their goals and provide them with a timeframe of expected completion. Send out racing bibs or swag bags so athletes can proudly support your cause and encourage them to share on social media. Participants can raise money from friends and family based on how many miles or hours they completed just as they would with an in-person event.
Music has the power to bring people together no matter the circumstance! Book a musician to perform a live concert virtually or even organize a festival-style music event with multiple performers. Live stream the full event and charge viewers for tickets to watch. A more popular artist will attract a bigger audience and there’s room for everyone when it’s streaming live from the couch!
Virtual Gala Dinner & Auction
Host your gala per usual, but make it virtual! Incorporate a theme or dress code and encourage your attendees to dress up as they would if they were in person! You can even send them a box of goodies to enjoy as they virtually attend. Include an auction with your event by encouraging participants to bid in advance, then announce the winners during the live event.
Virtual Trivia Night
Have you ever been to a trivia night at your local bar or pub? Organize a virtual trivia night and charge participants a fee to compete. Encourage players to register with a team of friends and offer incentives like prizes for the winning team. This one can be hosted on a regular basis and can give the community something to look forward to each week!
Virtual Class or Workshop
Class is in session! Teach a live virtual class on the topic of your choice or a topic that pertains to your cause. For example, hire a professional chef to lead a cooking class or a yoga instructor to lead stretching and meditation. You can even host a course on painting, playing a musical instrument, or photography! The possibilities are endless and all you have to do is charge a small fee to attend.
If your organization is fundraising for a physical place, consider hosting a virtual tour. Give participants a look inside your location with an in-depth walkthrough of the space paired with informative commentary. Charge a fee to view the live tour, encourage donations to support your organization if they enjoyed the tour, or even sell souvenirs as if they were in the gift shop!
