3 min to read ✭ In this post, you'll learn about our new hires' favorite part about working at Community Boost and where they'd love to travel to.

Tell us a little about yourself and where you’re from.

Karen: My name’s Karen I’m from San Diego, born and raised. I’ve been here my whole life. I went to SDSU, and now I’m here at Community Boost. I started in February, so I’ve been here for a couple of months now, and so far it’s been good.

Hailey: My name is Hailey. I am from Minnesota originally, and I went to the University of Minnesota. After graduating, moving out here to San Diego I was working in another digital marketing agency. Then I really wanted to just be a little bit more intentional with my work and do something that had more of an intrinsic reward. And that’s what led me to Community Boost.

What have you learned so far at Community Boost?

Karen: I’ve learned a lot. I came in with social media experience, but not that much digital marketing experience. I’ve learned a lot about the Google Ad Grant, Facebook ads, content marketing, and copywriting.

Hailey: It’s been a jam-packed first couple of months, and I’m really learning a lot – so retweet to all that. I really only had experience with the TikTok platform prior. So Google Ad Grants have been new, Google paid ads have been new, and the Facebook platform as well. And aside from that, I think just always ask questions. That’s been a big one for me.

What are you most passionate about?

Karen: In the past, I’ve worked with kids and I used to be a camp counselor. I used to work at the YMCA and volunteer at my church. Working with kids is something that has been a big part of my life. When I saw Community Boost, they work with some organizations that do help kids so I was pretty stoked about that.

Hailey: Something I’m passionate about is diversity, equality, and inclusion. This is something that I’m continually educating myself about. I’m no expert by any means but that has become a significant interest and passion in my life, especially in the past few years being a person of color. And something that I think is really cool about Community Boost is that we work with so many organizations that are also focusing on trying to uplift marginalized communities.

What is your favorite Community Boost core value?

Karen: We’re relentless learners. I kind of came in with a little bit of experience and still pretty new to this whole digital marketing world. So I love that learning is something that’s on the forefront here, and they’re always encouraging us to continue to grow and master new skills. And that’s super appealing to me. I’ve always loved being in school and learning and all that. So it’s definitely an exciting thing to be a part of.

Hailey: We are self-aware that one’s big for me. I think that’s something that I really try to do in my personal life and bring into work as well.

What is your favorite part about working at Community Boost?

Karen: How cool everybody is here. All the people that work at this company are so genuine and friendly and collaborative. Everybody wants to be your friend and wants to work with you. And in general, everybody’s just really awesome. So that’s been great. Being a new employee, having everyone be so welcoming has really just made it easier to get adjusted to working here.

Hailey: I’ve met so many awesome people at Community Boost. Everyone has been super friendly and super genuine, really willing to help. And I also think that at Community Boost, everyone wears a ton of different hats. So everyone has skills that are all over the place. And that has been super helpful just to get everyone’s different perspectives on how to do things, and why they do them differently. I’m just trying to absorb everything as much as I can as a sponge. Just meeting new people, getting new perspectives.

What is one thing that people might now know about you?

Karen: Some people might not know that I used to be an athlete in college. I played basketball. That’s my go-to fun fact. Other than that though, my second fun fact is I really like watching baseball and I want to eventually go to every ballpark in the country. Go Padres!

Hailey: I don’t know how exciting this is, but I’m an only child. So that’s something only children kind of get a rep for being weird, but I’m not weird. Maybe just a little.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

Karen: Okay. I did do a little bit of thinking about this answer and I think I’m going to go with potatoes. You can have them in so many different forms, so if I get tired of hashbrowns, I’ll just switch to fries or I’ll switch to a baked potato, tater tots, whatever I want. But potatoes.

Hailey: For me, I would probably do noodles and I had kind of the same train of thought. There are so many different types of noodles and pasta from so many different cultures. If you got sick of one, you could just switch to another kind.

What is one place you would love to travel to?

Karen: Going off the noodles topic, Italy. Italy has been at the top of my bucket list. I’m sad that it’s probably going to be a little while until I can go, but Italy is at the top of my list. I would love to go and spend two or three weeks there. Just see all of it.

Hailey: I would really like to go to Cuba. There was a short period of time where we were able to go to Cuba, like a couple of years ago. Obviously, we can’t go anymore. But that one is at the top of the list for me. They have like old cars and stuff.
